Erin and Ed’s Oaks Waterfront Inn wedding took place on an October weekend along the Miles River in Easton, Maryland. As their Maryland wedding photographer, I captured their church ceremony and waterfront reception on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The location became an important part of their day, especially during cocktail hour and their private sunset cruise.

Church Wedding Ceremony in Easton, Maryland

Erin and Ed began their wedding day with a ceremony at a nearby church. Afterward, they took a private trolley to The Oaks Waterfront Inn, where their guests gathered for cocktail hour. It was a nice transition from a traditional church ceremony into a reception centered around the waterfront setting.

Guests spent cocktail hour on the dock overlooking the Miles River. Having that time outside allowed everyone to enjoy the setting before heading into the ballroom for the reception. It also gave me a chance to capture guests together during one of the more relaxed parts of the day.

Private Sunset Cruise on the Miles River

During cocktail hour, Erin and Ed slipped away for a private sunset cruise with champagne. I loved that they made time to experience the water together instead of using it only as a backdrop for photos. The October light on the Miles River also gave us an opportunity to create some of my favorite images from their wedding day.

Oaks Waterfront Inn Wedding Reception

After their cruise, Erin and Ed returned to The Oaks to celebrate with their guests. Candlelight and seasonal florals filled the ballroom, shifting the atmosphere from the waterfront cocktail hour outside to dinner and dancing indoors. At the end of the night, guests could return to the waterfront cottages on the property.

One thing I especially liked about Erin and Ed’s wedding was how naturally they incorporated the location into their plans. Their guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the dock, while Erin and Ed had time alone on the river before the reception. As a photographer, I love when a couple gives themselves room to experience the place they chose to get married, because those experiences often lead to some of the most personal photos.
