Modern & exceptional wedding & portrait photography.

As an Alexandria Virginia wedding photographer, I loved capturing Molly and Tommy’s engagement session in the neighborhood they call home. Tommy is the brother of two of my past couples, Patrick and Ashley, whose wedding I photographed in 2019, and Katie, whose wedding I captured in 2024. Photographing another chapter for their family was especially meaningful, and it made this session feel familiar from the start. We began near the Carlyle House before making our way to the historic Prince Street which is still paved with cobblestone.

Molly and Tommy wanted their engagement session to reflect the places they spend time, rather than simply choosing a pretty location. We stopped at Virtue Feed & Grain for drinks before making our way to the lighthouse pier for sunset. It was early March, so the evening was beautiful but still crisp and cold. That didn’t slow them down. Molly is playful by nature, Tommy matched her energy, and their willingness to laugh, wander, and enjoy the evening together comes through in every photo. I photographed their session primarily on 35mm and medium format film, along with a small amount of digital, which suited both the historic setting and their easygoing personalities.

From Their Engagement Session to Their Wedding Day

A few months after their engagement session, I had the opportunity to capture Molly and Tommy’s wedding in June 2025 at the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa. Spending this time with them before the wedding made the day itself feel even more natural because we already knew how they interacted together and what brought out their personalities. If you’d like to see how their story continued, you can read more about Molly and Tommy’s wedding on my blog.

As an Alexandria Virginia wedding photographer, sessions like this are one of my favorite parts of the wedding experience because they give couples a chance to slow down, spend time together, and create photos that feel like an honest reflection of this season of life.
