Modern & exceptional wedding & portrait photography.

Val and Brady’s Terrapin Nature Park engagement was playful from the start, which ended up being perfect for an evening that didn’t go entirely according to plan. As their Maryland engagement photographer, I loved how willing they were to have fun, try different ideas, and make the most of whatever the evening gave us. We started with soft sunshine along the trail, spent about 45 minutes in the rain, and eventually ended the session playing in the water on the beach. I captured it all primarily on 35mm and medium format film, with digital mixed in as well.

Starting Along the Terrapin Nature Trail

We began along the trail, using the wooden fence and an opening filled with vegetation for some of their first photos. There were only a few clouds in the sky, but the light was even and soft rather than harsh. Val wore a brown dress and had an idea for mixing green and black details throughout the session, so I made sure to incorporate some black-and-white photos for her, too.

Film Photos in the Rain

Scattered thunderstorms eventually caught up with us, putting us in the rain for about 45 minutes. We started with flash photos under Val and Brady’s umbrella, then made our way through the rain to a nearby gazebo. There, I used my 35mm film camera and flash for individual portraits and some fun dancing photos. Val and Brady were willing to go along with every change in plans, and their playful personalities made the rain feel like part of the session rather than an interruption.

Terrapin Nature Park Engagement Photos on the Beach

Once the rain stopped, we headed to the beach, which was probably my favorite part of their Terrapin Nature Park engagement. We played in the water, and with the rain finally behind us, I was able to get my drone out for aerial photos. Clouds initially softened the sunlight over the water before beginning to clear, letting rays of sun come through as we finished the session.

Val and Brady stayed flexible and playful through every change in weather, and I think you can see that in their photos. I’ll be back in Maryland to capture their October 2027 wedding at Kent Island Resort, and I’m already looking forward to photographing them again.
