This National Arboretum engagement session with captured by Melissa as an associate photographer for Michelle Whitley in April 2021. Michelle Whitley is a National Arboretum engagement photography team available for weddings and engagements throughout Washington, D.C. and beyond.
My talented associate photographer, Melissa, captured Nammy and David’s engagement photos at the National Arboretum last spring. I told the couple from the beginning we were expecting our first child in May and there may be a hiccup in plans. I am so thankful Melissa was available to capture this session before the spring blooms left!
From the couple:
“We met in February 2016 shortly after my birthday. Dave initiated our meeting by messaging me on the OkCupid dating app. I was on a snowboarding trip in Seven Springs at the time, so we bantered for a little bit before deciding to meet up. What I expected to be a short afternoon date at the Phillips Collection, turned into coffee, wandering around the city, dinner, and our first kiss. The rest is history.”
The Proposal
“Last October we took a road trip to Maine to visit Acadia National Park. I had always wanted to visit this park for the coastal, mountain, and forest views. After being cooped up all year we desperately needed this getaway. We like to plan a sunrise hike at every park we visit, so we got up early one morning and ended up on a beautiful sandy beach nestled between trails. With not a soul around, we got to enjoy the sunrise and the beach all to ourselves. Dave decided that there was no better time or place to surprise me. I couldn’t have been more pleased with his sweet and modest proposal. He later told me that he was carrying the proposal box all weekend and was nervously patting his pocket, but I didn’t notice at all!”
